Youth Aliyah Child Rescue Gala Dinner 2016
8 Mar 2016
The Ballroom, Grosvenor House
Over £400,000 was raised at the Youth Aliyah Child Rescue gala dinner at the Ballroom, Grosvenor House. Around 450 guests were treated to an in depth political conversation between Sir Eric Pickles MP and Eitan Na’eh, Deputy Ambassador of Israel to the UK, led by Nick Ferrari of LBC.
Guests were introduced to Solomon Lawee, a graduate of the Mechina Youth Aliyah Village and a high ranking officer in the IDF in charge of 120 soldiers. Solomon spent the first 9 years of his life in Ethiopia and is now completing his internship as a prosecutor in Tel-Aviv, proving that our graduates go beyond just ‘Survival’ to positions of ‘Leadership’. Our honoured speaker was the ‘father’ of Youth Aliyah, Dr Chaim Peri, Founder and President of Derech Kfar and Yemin Orde Educational Initiatives and recipient of Shimon Peres’ Guardian of the Child Award. Chaim talked about the different cultures in our Villages and how each child should feel they belong, “We follow the Village Way. We don’t replace parents but we replicate their trust and attention so each child feels at home.”
An official handover of the Executive Director’s position was announced at the dinner. The charity will now be led by Daliah Mehdi who is no stranger to the organisation. Daliah celebrated her 18th birthday at Yemin Orde Youth Aliyah Village with her father Sion Mehdi who is our current Honorary Director in Israel and former Executive Director of the charity. Daliah joins with a lot of vision and creative ideas to take the charity to the next step.
